The Kindergarten children had a terrific time reading "The Best Bug Parade" by: Stuart J. Murphy. Each child became a measuring marvel as they used various nonstandard units to to measure the length of objects in our classroom. They were even more excited when they became a People Chain to measure and compare objects within our school.

My chain is shorter than the kitchen!

My chain is the same length as the chair! This was the first time this happened in our class and we were very excited to discuss why and how they knew it to be so.

The couch is longer than my chain.

My worms are almost as long as the chair!

My chain is shorter!!!

Two units of measurement provides a perfect comparison...were they both shorter than the puppet theater? Why or why not? How do you know?

Teamwork!!!

We are longer than the wall!
